Professional-Grade Precision for Firearm Maintenance and Assembly
Take the frustration out of firearm assembly with this high-performance Roll Pin Starter Punch Set. Whether you are performing a first-time AR build or conducting routine maintenance on specialized equipment, these punches provide the stability and control required for delicate pin alignment. Unlike standard punches, these “starter” tools feature a hollow-end design that cradles the pin, allowing you to seat it perfectly without the risk of the tool slipping off and damaging the receiver or frame.
Why This Starter Set Is Critical for Your Workbench:
-
Specialized Starter Design: Each punch is engineered to hold the roll pin securely within the tool head. This allows you to “start” the pin with a hammer tap using one hand, keeping the other hand free to steady the firearm. This eliminates the common issue of pins buckling or flying across the room during installation.
-
Hardened Steel Construction: Manufactured from high-quality, heat-treated steel, these tools are built to withstand repeated impact without deforming. The black oxide finish provides superior corrosion resistance and a non-glare surface for high-visibility work in well-lit shops.
-
Comprehensive 4-Piece Versatility: This set includes the most common sizes utilized in modern firearm platforms: 1/16″, 5/64″, 3/32″, and 1/8″. This range ensures you have the correct fit for gas block pins, trigger guards, bolt catches, and various small detent pins.
-
Ergonomic Knurled Grip: Each punch features a textured, knurled handle surface. This ergonomic detail provides a high-friction grip, ensuring the tool stays firmly in your hand even if working with cleaning oils or lubricants.
-
Professional Results for Enthusiasts: Designed to meet the standards of professional armorers while remaining accessible for hobbyists, this set helps prevent the “idiot marks” and scratches often caused by using improper tools like pliers or flat-head punches.

I find only 2 of them are big enough for roll pins on a gun but with that they are sturdy and save alot of time and headache

Extremely short punch set
The description tells the diameter but not the overall length of the punches individually. After they arrived, I went back to see the description, and that’s when I saw the “Overal Package” length was only 3.82 inches. Going to be a giveaway gift now. Already replaced with the Wheeler 710906 Engineering Bolt Catch Install Tool Kit for about $12. My hands are much happier now. ☺

They were covered in rust like they’ve been sitting on a shelf forever before being shipped. Definitely not brand new-which is what I thought I was purchasing.

Inaccurate description. Look elsewhere
What actually ships is one large tool and 3 medium tools (see photo). I’m missing two smaller tools and was unable to use this to put my rifle together. I suggest that you look for a different roll pin tool set.

Not 4 Sizes!
Received 3 of one size punch, and 1 of another. Was supposed to be 1 each of 4 different sizes. Quality seems to be fine for their purpose. Tried to return them, and Amazon issued an immediate refund (not verified).

Don’t buy these. Buy something better
Like some of the other posts I received 3 of the same diameter punches. There are no sizes stamped on the punches and the actual two sizes I got were not the right diameter. I bought these to rebuild a firearm, but couldn’t use them at all. At least I had an older set that worked fine that got the job done. So, speed a little more money and get something that works.

Great Value, Gets the Job Done
This product does exactly what its intended to do, holds a roller pin so the insert process can be started. They work fine for installing trigger guard pins and I also use them in the initial phase to insert the pin on the bolt release on my firearm. Yes, they are a bit short but that’s where my longer set of roll pin punches take over. I’ve only used these pin starters a few times and they help me perform a professional looking job. If you don’t have the right tools the work you perform will show it. I would recommend this set of roll pin starters to a friend.

solid preformers
The rear sight roll pin holder was a tad thick to fit, it took effort to grind down. Lots of of high carbon sparks, not pot metal.

Starter punches
For clarification, these are starter punches for roll pins. The sizes 1/16, 1/8, etc., refer to the size of the roll pin, which seats inside the hollowed end of the punch, allowing you to start to drive the roll pin into its hole. You will need another set of punches the actual diameter of the roll pin to drive the roll pin all the way in. The diameter of the thinnest punch with a 1/16-inch hollowed end, for starting a 1/16-inch roll pin, is about 1/8-inch. The pins are short, but are only designed to be starters. The quality seems good, but if you use these for anything other than starting, you’ll mushroom the end of the punch, at which point it may no longer be useful as a starter.
